How does the bail bond process work in Kansas?
- Arrest and booking. The person is taken into custody, booked, and held until a judge sets release terms. Booking can take anywhere from a couple of hours to a full day.
- Judge sets bail. The judge decides on release on recognizance, a bail amount, or no bail, based on charges, record, flight risk, and money available. Kansas pretrial rules can add conditions like check-ins, curfews, or drug testing.

How much does a Bail Bond cost?
Usually 10% of the total bail amount, paid as a non-refundable fee.
- In Kansas, the standard premium is 10%; $5,000 bail = $500.
- The fee is non-refundable and counts as earned once the person is released, even if the bond is later revoked.
- Collateral (for example, a vehicle title) or a co-signer may be required, decided case by case.
- Possible extra costs: recovery fees if a defendant must be údefendant skips.
- Bail amounts range from about $100 to $100,000+; Owens handles bonds “in any amount,” however, Owens Bonding does not handle cash-only bail bonds.
- Appeal bonds may require more collateral because appeals can take 2–3 years.
| Bail Amount | Typical Premium (10%) |
| $1,000 | $100 |
| $5,000 | $500 |
| $10,000 | $1,000 |
| $25,000 | $2,500 |
Can I pay for a bail bond with a payment plan?
Yes, Owens Bonding offers payment plans in alignment with Kansas State Law.
- Based on Kansas State law, we must receive half of the 10% premium in-hand before posting bond. That means if your bail is set at $5,000 and your premium is $500, we must have a minimum of $250 before we can post bond. That said, each agent contracted by Owens Bonding may have different stipulations for arranging terms for the remainder of the payment. When calling, ask the agent to clarify their process before proceeding.
- Terms for payment plan are dependent on the co-signer’s ability to pay; therefore, things like employment history, previous bonding history (such as a returning client) and other details may be needed to assess options.
- Payment Methods Accepted: Cash, credit cards, debit cards, wire transfers, certified cashier’s check. And most agents also accept Cash App, PayPal, Google Pay and Venmo.

My loved one was arrested in a different county (or I live out of town.) Can you still help?
Yes, Owens Bonding can help you. Our agents are able to write bonds across the full state of Kansas and are available 24/7 to assist you. Examples:
- EX: Can a family in Wichita work with Owens when the person is held in Finney County?
Yes! Owens Bonding agents can assist you from any city or county in the state of Kansas. - How do warrants or holds work from another county?
- A hold means that there is no bond and the defendant will have to be extradited back to the original county. If a bond is available after that, then yes, Owens Bonding can assist.
- For warrants, as long as a bond amount is attached to it, a local agent approved in that jurisdiction where the defendant is held should be able to post the bond. While rare, there are times where a jurisdiction may need to review the agent and company to verify approval before moving forward. Should this apply to your situation, Owens Bonding will remain communicative and walk you through the process.
- Please note that the warrant process is set by the state of Kansas and does not change county by county. That said, bail amounts and schedules are set by each judicial district and can change depending on region. Owens Bonding agents are aware of these changes and can support you in your individual circumstance.
